Elicitation is iterative derivation and extraction of information from stakeholders or other sources.

Definitions

According to the BABOK Guide (3rd edition),

Elicitation. Iterative derivation and extraction of information from stakeholders or other sources.

According to the Agile Extension to the BABOK Guide (preview),

Elicitation. An activity within requirements development that identifies sources for requirements and then uses elicitation techniques (for example, interviews, prototypes, facilitated workshops, documentation studies) to gather requirements from those sources.
