Employment is making use of somebody or something. In the workspace, employment is an agreement between two parties, one of which is called an employer and another is called an employee.

  • From the employer's side, employment is the act of employing workers;
  • From the employee's side, employment is the state of being employed.

Combining both sides, employment can be defined as a process and/or result of exchange of employer's money and/or other compensation and employee's work. In addition, employment may refer to some activity to which one devotes time. In economics, employment is a ratio of the number of employed people to total labor force.
