Forward integration is the process whereby an organization acquires the activities of its outputs, e.g. manufacturer into distribution and transport.

Definitions

According to the Corporate Strategy by Lynch (4th edition),

Forward integration. The process whereby an organization acquires the activities of its outputs, e.g. manufacturer into distribution and transport.

According to the Strategic Management by David and David (15th edition),

Forward integration. A strategy that involves gaining ownership or increased control over distributors or retailers, such as a manufacturer opening its own chain of stores.
