Learning management system (also known by its acronym, LMS; hereinafter, LMS) is a system for the administration, documentation, tracking, reporting and delivery of educational courses, training programs, or learning and development programs. Usually, LMS is built using e-learning software.

The use of the MLE term avoids confusion with the use of LMS to mean "Library Management System" (which is more commonly referred to as Integrated Library System, or ILS, in the United States).
