Simulation is a design and analysis technique that manipulates and observes a mathematical or physical model representing a real-world process, for which direct experiments may not be possible.

According to Juran's Quality Handbook by Defeo (7th edition),

Simulation. A design and analysis technique that manipulates and observes a mathematical or physical model representing a real-world process, for which direct experiments may not be possible.

According to the ASME EMBOK,

Simulation. Evaluation tool formulated by creating hypothesis about what will happen in the future based on the input of different sets of variables.
