Moodle offers Survey activity as a method of gathering data and information in various contexts and topics of interest. It is a course activity that provides a number of verified survey instruments as built in templates, useful in assessing and stimulating learning in online environments. These include critical incidents, COLLES (Constructivist On-Line Learning Environment Survey) and ATTLS (Attitudes to Thinking and Learning Survey). Survey module uses pre- made questions whereas some other activities such as Feedback Activity, Questtionaires and advanced features namely Surveypro module let authorized users create their own Survey questions with rich set of question types and formats.

Survey Types

Following survey types are particular for Online learning environments and likewise , used in Cert.

  1. Critical Incidents: This survey is type asks the students to reflect on critical moments that they remember from the course which can help in learning a lot about what is working and what is not.
  2. COLLES - (Constructivist On-Line Learning Environment Survey): This helps us address a key question about the quality of the learning environment.
  3. ATTLS - (Attitudes to Thinking and Learning Survey): To measure the extent to which a person is a 'connected knower' (CK) or a 'separate knower' (SK). People with higher CK scores tend to find learning more enjoyable, and are often more cooperative, congenial and more willing to build on the ideas of others, while those with higher SK scores tend to take a more critical and argumentative stance to learning.
