Workshop
Workshop activity in Cert enables the collection, review, and peer assessment of students' work. Here, Students submit their own work and then receive a number of submissions from other students which they must assess according to the teacher's specifications and set criteria. Assignments can be submitted in the form of Online Text, Files or both. The teacher can decide whether to show or hide the identities of the students to each other when assessing is taking place.

Definitions
According to the BABOK Guide (3rd edition),
- Workshop. A facilitated and focused event attended by key stakeholders for the purpose of achieving a defined goal.
Setting your Workshop
Here , Teacher sets the general settings .These include settings for submissions, assessment, availability, and access restrictions. During this phase, the activity is not open to students. Steps are as follows:
- In the course where you want your workshop, turn on the editing and from the Activity Chooser, select 'Workshop'.
- Give it a name and a description telling students what the workshop is about.
Grading Settings
For Grading, students obtain two grades in a Workshop activity i.e. a grade for their submission, and a grade for assessing their peers' submissions. Both grades are recorded in the Gradebook. Their assessment criteria is set as 80% and 20% respectively by default and can be changed by the Teacher in settings. Teacher can also assess and make any required changes in the procedure .
Assessment Settings
Here you will allocate submissions for peer assessment and provide an assessment form. It will basically tell them briefly what to look for when assessing the work of their peers.
Other Features
- Feedback option is also available which can be set as optional, required or turned off. It may give the students option of typing comments when they peer assess. Feedback can also include other types of files. All these settings are made by the teacher or authorized role.
- You can also add a conclusion to the workshop which will display when it is over.
- Another feature is Example Submission where you can give your students one or more Example submissions to practise on first. It could be optional or forced for the students.
Workshop Phases
Workshops are composed of several phases, each running on settings configured by the teacher.
Setup phase
In this phase the instructor sets the general settings for the activity. These include settings for submissions, assessment, availability, and access restrictions. During this phase, the activity is not open to students.
Submission phase
In this phase students submit their work for peer assessment, based on the submission settings configured by the instructor in the Setup phase.
Assessment phase
In the Assessment phase, students' submissions are open for peer assessment based on settings configured by the instructor, such as the allocation of submissions and assessment form. Transition to this phase from the Submission phase can be done manually by the instructor or set to switch after the submission deadline.
Grading evaluation phase
In this final phase of the workshop activity, students' grades are finalized based on the weighted components configured by the instructor. Instructors can override grades during this phase. Here you can also "Publish submissions" to show to other students selected submissions if you wish. Click on a submission in the workshop grades report and scroll down to 'Feedback for the author'. Tick the box to publish this submission. Other students will see it once the workshop is closed.
Closing the Workshop
Once the Workshop is closed, the grades for the activity will appear in the Gradebook as calculated in the previous phase. Students will be able to view their submission and their submission assessments.
- It is to note that Workshop Grading in Cert happens in a calculated scheme and settings. The teacher can edit these grades while still in this phase and the final grade for every submission is calculated as weighted mean of particular assessment grades given by all reviewers of this submission. Also, Grade for Assessment estimates the quality of assessments that the participant gave to the peers which are further displayed in the brackets () in the Workshop grades report. The final grade for assessment is calculated as the average of particular grading grades.
