CNMCyber for Competence

CNM Cyber for Competence (hereinafter, the Session) is a learning session introducing its participants to CNM Competency Suite. The Session consists of four lessons, each of which is made of three to five lesson parts, called lectios. Every lectio includes a presentation and a quiz. The official version of the Session is published at CNM Cert. Its materials are also published at CNM Page, CNM Talk, CNM Wiki, and various channels for marketing and convenience purposes.

CNM Competency Suite

CNM Competency Suite. The web-based managed learning environment (MLE) that the CNM Cyber Team designs and the Friends Of CNM delivers to the general public as a collection of services in education.

• Managed learning environment (MLE). A computer-based ecosystem that supports core learning activities such as assessment, authoring, communication, learner progress tracking and, possibly, more advanced options.

KSA (knowledge, skills, and abilities). The combination of the competencies that are required for a particular position or, on another end, one's proficiency applied to this position. The United States Federal Government uses KSAs as a series of narrative statements to describe its job openings. KSAs are used to determine, along with résumés, who the best applicants are when several candidates qualify for a job.

• Training. The organizing of one's learning.

Knowledge-focused training. The training that focuses on building learner's knowledge, especially work-related knowledge.

• Learning content. The object of one's learning that is contained in something like a lecture that is written, spoken, visualized, or created in any other way. This object may be the knowledge and/or ideas that may help and/or provoke possessing one's skills and/or abilities. Learning content delivery aims to make the content available to the learner.

Learning content delivery. The act of taking learning content such as a lecture to the learner.

• Lecturing. Any narrated instruction that is based on one or more lectures.
• Narrated instruction. Any educational method that is based on some narration such as lecturing, storytelling, or demonstrating.

Skills-focused training. The training that focuses on building learner's skills, especially work-related skills.

• Hands-on training. Any practical instruction that is based on completion hands-on assignments according to step-by-step instructions.

Abilities-focused training. The training that focuses on building learner's abilities, especially work-related abilities.

• Learning by making. Any educational method that is based on experiential working on real-world projects related to the subject of learning.
• On-the-job training. Any educational format that is based on training provided at the workplace. This training can be anything from time to think on work problems and/or use related learning tools and up to one-on-one mentoring.

Educational credential. A credential that confirms one's education. Some educational institutions offer educational programs especially in creative arts and the medical field that combine credentialing of academic achievements and professional experience.

• Academic credential. An educational credential that is issued by an educational institution or credentialing organization to certify specific academic achievements traditionally related to someone's knowledge.
• Work experience. Any experience that a person gains while working in a specific field or occupation, but the expression is widely used to mean a type of volunteer work that is commonly intended for young people, often students, to get a feel for professional working environments.

CNM Tube. The video-sharing system of CNM Cyber that is delivered to its end-users as a service.

• Video-sharing system. Any software system that enables its users to upload, convert, store and play back audiovisual content on the World Wide Web.

User feature. A function or an important part of product that is available to end-users of that product.

• Comments section. The feature of websites that represents website's section in which the publishers invite the audience to comment on the published content.
• File upload. The feature that allows for transfer of a computer file from the computing device of current file's user to the random-access memory or long-term storage of another device.

Metadata. Data about other data. Since data is usually presented by a document, metadata can be defined as a document that presents data about another document. For instance, when one uploads a multimedia file up to a file-sharing system, this system issues a system document that presents data from what user account the file is uploaded, its timestamp (when it is uploaded), what is its size, what is its title, category, and other tags that the uploading user and/or the system assigned to this file, etc.

• Metadata tag. A keyword, term, or phrase that a data owner assigns to the data. In information technology, the data is presented by a computer file or another document, so the tag enables keyword-based classification and used to categorize the content of that file or another document.

Multimedia file. Any computer file that holds two or more multimedia elements such as animations, audio, images, video, etc.

• File search. The feature that is designed to search for a particular computer file that is specified in a textual search query.
• Digital container format (container format, wrapper format). A format of the metafile which specification describes how different elements of data and metadata coexist in this file. The container formats are frequently used in multimedia files.
• Metafile. A computer file that stores multiple types of data.
• File download. The feature that allows for transfer of a computer file from the one computing device to the random-access memory or long-term storage of another device of a new user of this file.

CNM Wiki. The document collaboration system of CNM Cyber that is delivered to its end-users as a service. The Wiki also serves as a knowledge base and features its software repository for image files.

• Wikipage. A webpage that a wiki engine powers.

Web-based. A concept of locating some resource such as a document, service, or system on the Internet.

• HTML (Hypertext Markup Language). The standard markup language for web documents. HTML is one of three web languages that complement each other. Among these three, (a) HTML is used to mark up a webpage, (b) Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) is used to provide multiple webpages of one or more websites with a single source of truth for their graphic elements, and (c) a programming language, JavaScript (JS), is used to create everything, especially multimedia features, that the first two languages cannot create.
• Markup language. Any language that is used to format a document, especially, a web document, and its humanly-readable text according to special marks, which are often called markup tags.
• Markup editor. A tool to edit a markup language.

Document collaboration system. Any system that allows for editing in which many contributors may work on the same document. In other words, the Systems are generally designed to help multiple people work together on single documents to achieve their distinguished latest versions. Two main types of the Editors are collaborative realtime editors and, if the documents are textual or use textual markups, wiki engines.

• Collaborative realtime editor. The document collaboration system that enables realtime merging of edits of the same digital document, computer file or cloud-stored data that different users do. The editors tend to be web-based. To enter their edits, the end-users utilize their computers or mobile devices.

Wiki engine. Software that is designed to support creation, collaborative editing, storage, and usage of hyper-linked documents. The editing usually occurs through a web browser. The Engine that is ready to be installed is called wiki software. The Engine that is installed, usually on one or more application servers, is called a wiki application. Sometimes, the Engine can be referred as knowledge management software. One or more wiki applications are usually used in order to build a document collaboration system.

• Version control (revision control, source control). In configuration management, management of changes to documents, computer files, and/or other resources. Each revision is associated with its metadata such as a timestamp and the author of the change. Commonly, revisions can be compared, restored, and with some types of documents, merged. Version control systems are standalone software applications that work with one or more databases, which store revised documents, or software repositories, which store revised files. Nevertheless, version control tools are often embedded in various types of software such as document collaboration, learning managements, and project management systems.

Knowledge base. A self-serve library of search-optimized documents and other resources. Web-based knowledge bases often include some software repository to upload, store and share image and multimedia files.

• Image file. Any computer file that holds image elements.
• Discussion page (talk page). Any webpage that is designed for discussions. Discussion pages are vital for Internet forums. MediaWiki pairs every wikipage with its discussion page as a user feature to enable discussions around the paired wikipage topics.

Website navigation. The tools such as menus, search tools, categories, links, etc. that help to navigate at a website.

• Text search. The feature that is designed to search for a particular text that is specified in a search query.
• Categorization tool. The feature that allows for assigning a category to a document to be found in the search or the category page.

CNM Cert. The learning management system (LMS) of CNM Cyber that is delivered to its end-users as a service.

• Learning management system (LMS). A system for administration, documentation, tracking, reporting, and delivery of educational courses, training programs, or learning and development programs. Usually, LMS is built using e-learning software.
• Credential. An achievement, aspect of a person's background, authority, competence, personal quality, and/or qualification, typically when used to indicate that the named person is suitable for something. A credential could also be a document that a third party issues to a person in order to certify this person's achievement, competence, qualification, etc.

Learning activity. Something that a learner does or is offered to do for his or her learning. The Activity may also refer to functionality of learning management systems.

• Lesson. Any learning activity that involves some learning content delivery and, usually, student's feedback such as answering questions.
• Quiz. The learning activity that is designed to test one's knowledge about a certain subject.
• Course forum. A learning activity in which course participants are supposed to hold conversations like Q&A sessions or discussions on particular topics in the form of posted messages.

Learning sequence. Any sequence of learning activities or educational objectives that any human-learning theory or one's intuition suggests.

• Predecessor activity. An activity that precedes another activity without any other activities intervening. One activity can have multiple predecessor activities and can be the predecessor of multiple activities.
• Successor activity. Any activity that follows another activity without any other activities intervening. One activity can have multiple successor activities and can be the successor of multiple activities.

Course. A path of something. In the United States, a course is a quantifiable unit of instruction and refers to a course of study of one subject within one academic term. In education, generally, a course of study refers to the academic major. At learning management systems, a course refers to one standalone educational unit that requires a separate enrollment and identifies quantifiable criteria for its completion.

• Enrollment tool. A tool that allows for enrollment.
• Prerequisite. Something like an activity or event that must exist, happen, or end before something else can exist, happen, or start.

Curriculum. The aggregate of learning content and learning sequence of a particular course of study or all the courses offered by an educational institution, or their brief description.

• Prescripted curriculum. Any curriculum that is externally imposed in advance.
• Individualized curriculum. Any curriculum tailored to meet the needs of a particular learner.

Credential. An achievement, aspect of a person's background, authority, competence, personal quality, and/or qualification, typically when used to indicate that this person is suitable for something. A credential could also be a document that a third party issues to a person in order to certify this person's achievement, competence, qualification, etc.

• Competence. The ability to do something at some degree of success, productivity, effectiveness, and efficiency.
